Course Objective:
Participants will develop basic customer service and math skills to conduct sales transactions. They will build an understanding of the retail industry, its impact on the economy and the diverse jobs available. In addition, they will learn best practices for interviewing and exploring career paths.
Description:
- Retail Industry Fundamentals: This course teaches the basics of the retail industry giving the student a broader look into possible career pathways available in the retail sector. Students will learn about the retail ecosystem, distribution chain, and the multitude of jobs retail has to offer from cashier to Human Resources. Learn highly transferable and sought after soft skills, resume and cover letter writing as well as job searching and interviewing. Engage in meetings with local retail managers giving students the edge on what is needed to secure the job. Completion of the class and scoring a passing grade on the open-book exams earns you a national recognized certification.
- Customer Service and Sales: The second level of the National Retail Foundations curriculum, this class focuses on how to communicate effectively with customers and the world around you. Learn how body language, growth mindset and active listening can turn an unhappy customer into a loyal customer. Not sure how to start a conversation or close a sale? Learn from local industry leaders in virtual meetings during class, talk to managers and find a career you can thrive in. Work on soft skills while practicing with technology, continue working on writing a winning resume and dynamic cover letter, hone your interview skills to land your next job in the fast paced world of retail. Completion of this class and a passing score on the final exam will earn you a nationally recognized certification.
