Job Description
Summary of Function:
Grant Funded. Provide instruction for Adult Basic Education participants enrolled for services in Adult Basic Education and Adult Secondary Education (ABE/ASE), Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education (IELCE) and Integrated Training programs (IET & IELCE+T).
Typical Duties:
- Serves Students. Provide instruction to Adult Basic Education (ABE/ASE) students seeking their High School Equivalency Diploma in development courses that include Reasoning Through Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Mathematical Reasoning, and Civics to transition to career pathways and/or post-secondary education including gaining Work Essential skills. Incorporates Arizona Adult Education Content & Teacher Standards to guide and support instruction. Establish clear objectives for all lessons and activities and communicate those objectives to students.
- Provide instruction in Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education (IEL/CE) for English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) to prepare participants to successfully acquire the reading, writing, speaking, listening, and civics education skills and skills transition to career pathways and/or post-secondary enhancing basic education levels for employment, education requirements, and/or prepare for the High School Equivalency exam and/or transition to the ABE/ASE program. Incorporate Arizona Adult Education English Language Proficiency Standards & Teacher Standards to guide and support instruction. Establish clear objectives for all lessons and activities and communicate those objectives to students.
- Provide instruction to the training program participants in Adult Basic Education Program to include Integrated Education Training (IET) for ABE/ASE and Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education Training for ESOL/IELCE. Instruction must occur simultaneously with the training instructor focused on adult education and literacy activities, workforce preparation activities, and workforce training to acquire the skills needed to transition to and complete postsecondary education and training programs and advance employment leading to economic self-sufficiency, and to exercise the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.
- Adapt teaching methods and instruction materials to meet students’ varying abilities and needs. Develop lessons in alignment to the Arizona Adult Education Standards for each content area and follow the Arizona Adult Education Teacher Standards. Lessons and instruction should be data-driven according to TABE & CLAS-E tests and other formal/informal assessment methods. Assess and evaluate students’ assignments to determine their strengths and weaknesses and make suggestions for improvement. Navigate educational software, assign coursework, and evaluate students’ progress. Provide monthly progress reports and weekly attendance to the Director of Adult Basic Education.
- Attend approved training, and/or webinars and staff meetings. Participate in professional development.
- Supports and participates in strategic initiatives and performs other duties as assigned.
