Description
A. Course Objective: Description: To develop in students the personal traits and professional skills needed to perform as competent entry-level Phlebotomy Technicians. Special emphasis is placed on vacutainer and syringe blood drawing methods and specimens processing. Competencies to be achieved: PHL 102 Introduction to Laboratory and Communication, Hand Washing: Demonstrate proper procedure for hand washing. Personal Protective Equipment/PPE: Demonstrate proper procedures for donning/doffing PPE. Urine Specimen: Instruct a male patient and a female patient in the collection of urine specimens. Urinalysis: Demonstrate proper procedure for physical and chemical urinalysis. Computer Systems: Employ computer skills necessary to accomplish job functions, including patient data entry/retrieval, report generation, and requisitions, among others. PHL 103 Phlebotomy: Tourniquet, Vein Selection: Demonstrate proper procedure for tourniquet application and vein selection. Venipuncture/Winged Infusion Method: Demonstrate proper procedures for venipuncture using the winged infusion method. Venipuncture/ETS method: Demonstrate proper procedure for venipuncture using the evacuated tube system (ETS) method. Syringe Venipuncture: Demonstrate proper procedure for needle and syringe venipuncture. Blood Culture: Demonstrate proper procedure for blood culture collection. Finger Stick: Demonstrate proper procedure for dermal puncture finger stick. POCT: Demonstrate proper procedure for collecting/processing point-of-care testing (POCT) specimen: Glucose, Hemoglobin, Hematocrit, PT/INR, Urinalysis, Phenylketonuria (PKU) Collection: Demonstrate proper procedure for outpatient infant PKU collection. Centrifuge: Demonstrate proper procedure for centrifugation of red-top evacuated tube and serum separation. Optional Lab Skills Objectives: Demonstrate proper procedure for microhematocrit testing. Blood Smear: Demonstrate proper technique to prepare a blood smear. Vital Signs—Pulse, Respiration, Blood Pressure: Demonstrate proper procedures to measure/document vital signs. Electrocardiogram: Demonstrate and/or explain proper procedure for electrocardiogram (ECG).

REFUND POLICY: Refunds are calculated on the tuition and registration fee only. No refunds will be due on textbooks, uniforms and supplies. Full refunds will be issued in the event courses/programs are discontinued. Refunds for a cancellation are made within 30 days from the date of cancellation. A cancellation fee is not charged if the applicant cancels the enrollment within 3 business days of signing an Enrollment Agreement, but prior to starting classes.
1. A student terminating training within first 10% of enrollment period is entitled to a refund of: 90% less $100 cancellation charge. 2. A student terminating training after 10% but within the first 30% of the enrollment period is entitled to a refund of 70% less $100 cancellation charge. 3. A student terminating training after 30% but at or within the first 60% of the enrollment period is entitled to a refund of 40% less $100 cancellation charge. 4. A student terminating training after 60% of the enrollment period is not entitled to a refund.
