Description
A. Course Objective:
To develop personal traits/professional skills needed to perform as competent entry-level Radiologic Technologists. Students will be presented with information in anatomy & physiology, methods of patient care, psychology, medical terminology, radiographic techniques, & communications.
Competencies :
General Patient Care
Imaging Procedures must demonstrate competence in all 37 mandatory procedures, performed on patients when possible (max 8 may be simulated if demonstration on patients not feasible).
Must demonstrate competence in 15 of 34 elective procedures. Must select at least 1 of 15 elective procedures from the head section. Must select either upper GI or contrast enema & 1 other elective from fluoroscopy section as part of 15 electives. Elective procedures should be performed on patients whenever possible.
MANDATORY: Chest Routine, Chest AP (Wheelchair or Stretcher), Ribs, Thumb or Finger, Hand, Wrist, Forearm, Elbow, Humerus, Shoulder, Trauma: Shoulder or Humerus (Scapular Y, Transthoracic or Axial), Clavicle, Trauma: Upper Extremity (Non Shoulder), Foot, Ankle, Knee, Tibia-Fibula, Femur, Trauma: Lower Extremity*, Cervical Spine, Thoracic Spine, Lumbar Spine, Cross-Table (Horizontal Beam) Lateral Spine, Pelvis, Hip, Cross-Table (Horizontal Beam) Lateral Hip, Abdomen Supine (KUB), Abdomen Upright, C-Arm Procedure (Requiring Manipulation to Obtain More Than One Projection), Surgical C-Arm Procedure (Requiring Manipulation Around a Sterile Field), Chest, Abdomen, Orthopedic, Pediatric Patient (Age 6 or Younger) Chest Routine, Geriatric Patient (At Least 65 Years Old and Physically or Cognitively Impaired as a Result of Aging) Chest Routine, Upper/Lower Extremity
ELECTIVE: Chest Lateral Decubitus, Sternum, Upper Airway (Soft-Tissue Neck), Scapula, AC Joints, Toes, Patella, Calcaneus, Skull, Paranasal Sinuses, Facial Bones, Orbits, Zygomatic Arches, Nasal Bones, Mandible, Temporomandibular Joints, Sacrum and/or Coccyx, Scoliosis Series, Sacroiliac Joints, Abdomen Decubitus, Intravenous Urography, Upper GI Series, Single or Double Contrast, Contrast Enema, Single or Double Contrast, Small Bowel Series, Esophagus, Cystography/Cystourethrography, ERCP, Myelography, Arthrography, Hysterosalpingography, Pediatric Patient (Age 6 or Younger) Upper/Lower Extremity, Abdomen, Mobile Study
Students must complete additional competencies to show continued knowledge skill. Extremity (Upper or Lower), Spine (Cervical, Thoracic, or Lumbar), Chest (2 view), Abdomen (Supine, Upright, or Decub), Elective (Any other exam from the list)
