Description

AAPC Professional Medical Coding CPC Course with Medical Terminology
Students learn to use the three HIPAA approved coding books CPT-4, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS Level II. Students learn how to abstract from a medical record and apply the guidelines from AMA and CMS to choose the correct code to represent what services were provided and prove the medical necessity of the service being billed. Once a student successfully completes the program, they are eligible to sit for the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) National Exam. If the student passes the exam with a grade of 70% or more, they receive their AAPC certificate. If a student fails to pass the national exam, LS Coding & Education guarantees they will remain a student provided they continue to study and participate in the program. The student, will receive tutoring, and be given additional practice tests to help them pass the AAPC National Exam. A student may however have to purchase the next years AAPC books and Coding Reference Books if they crossover into the next year where updated books are required.
This course utilizes the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) Professional Medical Coding Curriculum. The Instructor/Program Supervisor, Lynn Schoeler, is a Certified Professional Coder Instructor licensed by the AAPC. The Co-Instructor/Program Manager, Sharon Jones, is a Certified Professional Coder and Certified Outpatient Coder, certified by the AAPC.
Students will use our Moodle Server at www.onlinecpc.net to find instructions for each week of class.
Students will read the chapters before attending the class lecture online on the Moodle site.
After watching the online classes, students will be required to take a Quiz for each chapter as well as attend a forum chat session addressing the subject assigned by the instructor for each week. They must respond to the instructor and at least one other student. Responses and comments must be substantive.
Class exercises will be assigned and reviewed during the online sessions. Assignments will be given following the last session of the week these assignments are due back the following week of class. Assignments will be reviewed in the next week’s sessions. Tests will be given on each chapter of the curriculum. Mock tests will be given to simulate the AAPC National Examination to prepare the student for the AAPC National Certification Exam.
The student will be able to read a medical record and determine what services were provided to the patient. The student will be able to translate the services and diagnosis using the CPT- 4 Procedure codes and ICD-10-CM Diagnosis codes. The student will also be able to find the correct HCPCS Level II Codes to bill for supplies used during the procedure provided in the physician outpatient setting. Students will be able to apply the Medicare Coding Guidelines when selecting the appropriate service and diagnosis codes.
