Nursing Assistant Program Synopsis
A. Course Objective:
Description: The Nursing Assistant Program is 6 weeks program of full time education which includes a total of 153 hours of instruction (as required by the Arizona State Board of Nursing) The Program is designed to prepare students for certification as nursing assistant. A Nursing Assistant is licensed caretaker who assist in performing activities of daily living to persons in skilled nursing facilities, hospitals, and doctors’ offices. They are supervised by Licensed Practical Nurses and Register Nurses in the healthcare setting. The nursing assistant performs delegated procedures that are commensurate with the Arizona Board of Nursing Nurse Aide Practice Acts. This Program is Licensed by the Arizona State Board of Nursing.
Competencies to be achieved: Introduction to Nursing, Infection Control and Safety Measures, Body Structure, Function and Vital Signs, Growth & Development throughout the Lifespan, Body Mechanics, Positioning & Transfers, Personal Hygiene and Grooming, Nutrition and Fluid Intake/ Output, Wound, Surgery & Respiratory Care, CPR & First Aid, Rehabilitation, Nursing, Body Disorders, Digestive, Reproductive & Mental Health Disorders, Developmental Disabilities & End of Life Care, Clinical Externship.

Background check requirements for licensing and background restrictions for working in the occupation:
Fingerprint Clearance Card; no criminal history; TB test required prior to placing student in a clinical field.

High School Diploma or GED
Pass the Test for Adult Basic Education (TABE): The TABE test is a diagnostic test used to determine a student’s skill levels and aptitudes. Students must obtain 8.0 score in order to enroll in classes at the College of Health Careers and / or under the discretion of the President & CEO student may be admitted to the program.
Students of the Certified Nursing Assistant Program are required to submit to a Urine Drug Analysis screening at the time of Orientation. The drug screening is required by the State Board of Nursing and the RCBH, Inc. /College of Health Careers.
