Program Synopsis Radiologic Technology Associate of Applied Science (AAS)

Program Location: Superstition Mountain Campus

Course Objective:
Description: Radiologic Technology is a health care profession involving the use of ionizing radiation to generate diagnostic images in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Radiologic Technology is a two-year program (six sequential semesters including summers) that prepares students for entry-level positions as radiographers. The program starts once per year in the Spring Semester.

The curriculum is designed in accordance with the Radiography Curriculum established by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists. Students are required by Arizona State Statute to complete 1,800 practicum hours within the two years. The Radiologic Technology course of study is a demanding experience and involves a full-time commitment of at least 40 hours per week plus homework. Students must earn a grade of 75% or better in all required courses.

Admission Requirements: (Before applying to the program, students need to have completed the following)
* High School Diploma or equivalency (GED)
* Record of Immunizations.
* Pre-admission testing to prove college-level English, reading and math proficiency.
* Pass screening test that will include drug testing, criminal background check and fingerprinting. 
* Submission of the Radiologic Technology Program application along with two letters of recommendation.

Pre-Degree Requisites:

* RAD103 Rad Positioning Terminology is the prerequisite for RAD110 Rad Positioning I Lecture (*Take after acceptance into the program)
* BIO181 General Biology I or Biology Assessment is the prerequisite for BIO201 Anatomy and Physiology I.

Background check requirements for licensing and background restrictions for working in the occupation:

Background check requirements for the radiology program adhere to the contractual requirements outlined in the Affiliation Agreements with our clinical affiliates. The school is required to show proof of a lawful background check for each student (18) years of age or older. Each student must pass a background check going back seven (7) years including, but not limited to the following: Social Security Trace/Alias Trace, SSN Sight Validation, Maricopa County/Arizona Warrant Search, Out-of-State County Criminal Search, USA Criminal
Search and USA Sex Offender, and Sanctions Scan Healthcare Sanctions Database/OIG Healthcare Sanctions Check

Other requirements needed:

Drug Screen: Must be completed upon entry into the student’s academic program. Each student must have passed a urine drug screen for substance abuse using a standard panel that includes the following substances: amphetamine, barbiturate, benzodiazepine, cannabinoids, cocaine or metabolites, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, phencyclidine, and propoxyphene. School must also instruct each student that he/she will need to rescreen upon returning from a leave of absence.
