A. Course Objective:
Description:
This 8-day, 36-hour course spans over a period of 2 weeks, with flexible options for daytime or evening classes. You can choose to attend classes from Monday to Thursday, either from 8am to 1pm during the day or from 5pm to 10pm in the evening.
Program Objectives:
• Develop knowledge of basic science concepts applicable to phlebotomy procedures.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the health care delivery system and medical terminology.
• Demonstrate basic understanding of the anatomy and physiology of body systems and anatomic terminology in order to relate major areas of the clinical laboratory to general pathologic conditions associated with the body systems.
• Demonstrate basic understanding of age-specific or psychosocial considerations involved in the performance of phlebotomy procedures on various age groups of patients.
• Demonstrate understanding of the importance of specimen collection and specimen integrity in the delivery of patient care.
• Demonstrate understanding of quality assurance and quality control in phlebotomy.
• Communicate (verbally and nonverbally) effectively and appropriately in the workplace.
• Develop critical thinking and skills sufficient to perform phlebotomy techniques and procedures such as specimen collecting, processing, handling, and transportation efficiently and accurately.
• Knowledge of collection equipment, various types of additives used, special precautions necessary and substances that can interfere in clinical analysis of blood constituents and computer applications.
• Active awareness of potential laboratory hazards, infection control, and safety concerns.
