Diploma Dental Assistant 31.5 credits 732.5 contact hours 40 weeks
A. The goal of the Dental Assistant Program is to provide graduates with the skills and knowledge that will enable them to qualify for entry level positions as dental assistants. Since they are trained in clinical, radiographic and administrative procedures, their services are also sought by dental schools, dental supply manufacturers, hospital dental departments, and insurance companies. Graduates are also capable of filling entry level positions such as dental receptionist, dental insurance clerk, dental supply salesperson, and administrative assistant. The program consists of 8 modules (multiple courses) Externship. Day & Evening classes are attended 4 days per week; After completion & passing all Radiography courses, the student is eligible to take the X-ray Certification Examination through DANB (Dental Assisting National Board) Exam fee is included in Tuition Costs. After successful completion of all classroom coursework, the student is scheduled to complete 180 hours of Clinical Practicum/Externship in a Private Dental Practice or Clinic giving the student supplementary on the job training to enhance their classroom experience. completion & passing all Radiography courses, the student is eligible to take the X-ray Certification Examination through DANB (Dental Assisting National Board) Exam fee is included in Tuition Costs. Lifetime Placement Assistance to ALL Graduates Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of the Dental Assistant diploma program, graduates will: 1.Explain general principles of dental office administrative planning, including bookkeeping, billing, and banking procedures. 2.Explain the use of various computer and software programs used in the dental office. 3.Explain and demonstrate the types and use of 4-6 handed dentistry, dental hand pieces, rotary instruments, restorative and esthetic dental materials. 4.Discuss and explain the clinical equipment and treatment rooms found in the dental office. 5.Discuss waste management in a dental office, protection procedures that are taken when working with hazardous chemicals and bacterial contamination. 6. Discuss radiation sources and explain x-ray production, benefits, principles, and controls. 7.Describe the role of the dental assistant in obtaining, processing and mounting dental radiographs. 8.Discuss the concept of professionalism and demonstrate the responsibilities, qualities and characteristics of a professional dental assistant. 9.Discuss aspects of a professional career, including resume preparation, sources of employment, job interview skills, salary negotiations and the Americans with Disabilities Act

Additional information: 1.Applicant must be a Citizen of the United States or an eligible non-citizen as classified by the Department of Homeland Security 2.Prerequisites: High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent) 18 years of age at the time of admission; If a prospective student is less than 18 years of age, they may be permitted to enroll if they obtain parent or legal guardian signature of approval or demonstrate that they are otherwise covered under state emancipation statutes. 3.Other: Students must pass the Introduction to Healthcare module before taking other non-clinical or clinical courses: students are required to demonstrate completion of immunizations paid by the College.
