Description
A. Course Objective: To provide Nursing Assistant training for students who qualify for the training.
Description & Competencies to be achieved: This course prepares the student to provide basic personal care under the supervision of licensed nurses. It includes a minimum of 120 hours total for the completion of the program: theory, laboratory and clinical experience in a local health care facility including hospitals and/or nursing homes. Graduates are qualified to sit for the state competency exam to qualify to be listed on the registry as a licensed or certified nursing assistant (LNA or CNA). Employment opportunities for LNAs/CNAs primarily include hospitals, home care and long-term care facilities
Requirements: Being older than 16 years old and not having criminal background check
Prerequisites: 7th grade of English and Math
Timeline: 6 to 8 weeks
Note: Advanced Placement is approved under the AZ State Board of Nursing and limited to candidates a) with at least one-year full-time employment in the direct provision of health care within the past five years (caregivers); b) candidates who have successfully completed course work that included direct patient care experiences in allied health, medicine or nursing in the past five years. This training has a requirement of presenting documentation to qualify.

The Arizona State Board of Nursing has specific requirements to take the Licensed or Certified Nursing Assistant examination. Prior convictions, misdemeanor or felony, may prevent the person from becoming a Licensed Nurse Assistant or a Certified Nurse Assistant. This includes juvenile offenses.
