Program Name: Medical Billing and Coding Specialist


A. Course Objective:
Medical Billing and Coding Specialists compile, process, and maintain medical records of hospital and clinical patients. They process, maintain, compile, and report patient information for health requirements and standards in a manner consistent with the healthcare industry’s numerical coding system. Arizona College’s Medical Billing & Coding Program provides a sound educational environment for instruction and training to equip its graduates for entry-level positions. This is accomplished through approximately one half of the program consisting of lecture/demonstration and one half hands-on laboratory procedures. To meet the training objectives the following equipment will be used: Computers and printers, office management software including MediSoft and Medical Manager, anatomy charts, human skeleton and various other teaching aids. Sample job titles: Medical Records Clerk, Health Information Clerk, Medical Records Technician, Office Manager, File Clerk, Medical Records Coordinator, Medical Records Analyst, Medical Biller, Receptionist, Coder


B. Total Cost of Program: $12,795 Cost breakdown=$10,000 Tuition- $1500 books, $1295 supplies, IPAD scrubs, all listed under “C&D” Tuition, books, supplies listed under “D”

• Exclusions: Some employers and externship sites require successful completion of a background check prior to accepting students
• Location of Testing Center: Both AHIMA and AAPC have testing centers throughout the greater Phoenix area as well as statewide.
• Prerequisites: High School Diploma or GED and pass College entrance exam
