A. Course Objective
Description:
Prepare for entry-level employment or advancement within the growing health-care industry as a professionally trained Health Information Technician. Health Information Technician professionals work behind the scenes to support patient care in clinics, hospitals, physician and specialty practices and in external agencies including legal firms and research centers.
Competencies to be achieved: Upon successful completion of the Health Information Technology AAS program, the learner will be able to:
• Apply and evaluate principles and applications of clinical data content, structure, and standards
• Analyze and interpret health information protection policies and regulations
• Utilize and explain electronic health technologies and resources for system implementation
• Apply and evaluate internal and external revenue and reimbursement policies, methodologies, and systems
• Analyze and evaluate healthcare regulatory standards and collaborations for integration and compliance
• Identify leadership strategies and apply to quality improvement, workflows and project management within the healthcare industry

Pursuing a career in any field within the healthcare industry will typically require evidence of vaccinations, immunizations, drug testing, fingerprint clearance and a background check. Students should be prepared to provide this information to any potential employer and may be required to provide this information in order to complete the Practical Experience (Internship).
• A fingerprint clearance card may be required for County funding approval.

Students must be able to access the Internet on a daily basis
