A. Course Objective: Gain basic knowledge of coach and transit bus driving. Classes include driving time.
Competencies to be achieved: Upon successful completion of the Coach-Transit Bus Driver Certificate program, the learner will be able to:
• Interpret and apply knowledge of US Department of Transportation regulations to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License class B permit and license (with P endorsement).
• Demonstrate competencies of basic maneuvers in operating a commercial Class B passenger vehicle, including backing skills.
• Identify potential safety concerns or issues when performing a pre-trip inspection and citing safety hazards while performing the road trip.
• Demonstrate driving proficiency of basic skills in road training to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License Class B with Passenger endorsement.

G. Additional information:
• Background check requirements for licensing and background restrictions for working in the occupation: drug test and physical screening, Sign a release form for a copy of student’s Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) (or provide a copy of one to the Program Office)
• Other requirements needed: Be at least 18 years old (Students 18-20 are limited to driving in-state only)
• Have a Class D (minimum) Driver’s License for at least one year
• Current with Child Support (if applicable)
• Sign a Hazardous Materials Endorsement Notification
• Have consent forms on file with the Program Office for any agency sponsoring the student and/or companies where the student has completed applications
• Provide a list of pre-hires obtained by student or sign a waiver if the student already has a job or will do job searches independently
• Provide the following documents to the Program Office so that official copies can be produced:
o Valid Driver’s License,
o Social Security Card,
o U.S. Birth Certificate or U.S. Passport or Legal Resident Card
