Program Synopsis Diabetes Care & Education Certificate
Course Objective:
Description: The Diabetes Care and Education Certificate provides current training and information to paraprofessionals working with people at risk for developing diabetes or developing complications from diabetes. The certificate is embedded in the Nutrition and Dietetic Technician AAS Degree. Students interested in working towards this degree are encouraged to contact the Nutrition and Dietetic Technician advisor.
Competencies to be achieved:
* Compare and contrast the types of diabetes mellitus describing the differences. (Evaluating Level)
* Describe strategies to effectively prevent and/or manage symptoms and/or complications of diabetes mellitus. (Understanding Level)
* Evaluate the application of lifestyle modifications and techniques that favor a lifestyle conducive to diabetes prevention and/or management. (Evaluating Level)
* Outline three coping and communication skills required to promote a lifestyle conducive to diabetes prevention and/or management. (Analyzing Level)
