Description
Course Name: Spanish-English Translation Certificate Program
A. Course Objective:
The Spanish-English Translation Certificate Program is a 3-course online program designed to train entry-level translators to meet the needs of doctors’ offices, hospitals, courts, law offices, schools and other settings.
Competencies to be achieved:
Knowledge of English and Spanish health, legal and business terminology; knowledge of how to make translation decisions on the basis of the translation requirements; training in cultural competency; preparation to work as a translator in health, legal and business settings.
Program is also designed to help participants prepare to take the American Translators Association (ATA) certification exam.
This training program is offered STATEWIDE.
B. Total Cost of Program (include all costs to student including testing, licensure):
$2,475 for all three courses
American Translators Association (ATA) exam: Taking the exam is optional. Exam candidates must be American Translators Association members in order to take the ATA Certification exam. Individual ATA membership: $99-$281, depending on discount eligibility. ATA exam fee: $525. ATA practice exam (optional but highly recommended by ATA): $80 for ATA members, $120 for non-members. Exam fees are not included in course tuition and cannot be purchased through University of Arizona Continuing and Professional Education.

Background check requirements for licensing and background restrictions for working in the occupation: Specific employers or roles may require a pre-employment background check.
Other requirements needed: Demonstrated proficiency in writing both English and Spanish prior to being admitted to the program. Students must successfully complete an application and Spanish-English proficiency test prior to being allowed to register for the Spanish-English Translation Certificate Program.
