A. Course Objective:
Description: The Certified Nursing Assistant program prepares students for employment as a nursing assistant. The program combines classroom instruction with clinical laboratory practice and long-term care and/or acute care experiences. The program consists of 3 courses, AHS131 Medical Terminology (3 credits) , NUR 110 Nursing Assistant I (4 credits), and NUR 111 (1 credit) Nursing Assistant Clinical with a total of 8 credit hours.
Competencies to be achieved: 1. Safely perform nurse assisting skills to meet the needs of diverse populations. 2. Perform therapeutic maintenance and preventative interventions to provide holistic nurse assistant care. 3. Demonstrate effective communication skills while fostering mutual respect and shared decision making with patients, families and colleagues. 4. Integrate technology to provide safe quality care and improve patient outcomes. 5. Manage information confidentially, ethically, and effectively. 6. Function effectively in the role and within the scope of the nurse assistant.
