A. Course Objective:


Description:


Coconino Community College in partnership with Phoenix Truck Driving School, offers Class B CDL, with Passenger Endorsement to the Flagstaff area. 


PDTS had its first truck-driving program in 1991, is a Family Owned and Operated Company. Our mission is to offer students the opportunity to develop both the technical knowledge and the personal skills vital to employment in the ever-changing world of truck driving. This course is designed to take entry-level drivers through the process of obtaining his/her Class B with Passenger permit by taking the written tests at the Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) office and obtain his/her Class B with Passenger CDL by passing a Third Party/or MVD CDL Demonstration Test on Pre-Trip Inspection, Backing Skills and Road Skills.. 


Competencies to be achieved: 


The student will apply for an be prepared to pass the Arizona State Commercial Driver's License written examination, passenger and tanker endorsements, and the three physical skills tests, pre-trip vehicle inspection, basic vehicle control skills test, and on-road driving test.


The course is 2 week on a full-time basis and 4 week on a part-time basis. Student will spend 40 hours of classroom training to prepare them to pass the written tests to obtain his/her Class B CDL permit with Passenger Endorsement and Additional Endorsements such as Tanker, and Hazardous Materials (Must be 21 to obtain HazMat Endorsement). The remaining 40 hours of the course is hands-on instruction on Pre-Trip Vehicle Inspection, Backing Skills and On-Road Driving in various traffic situations. The student will be required to pass a Third Party/or MVD CDL Demonstration Test on Pre-Trip Inspection, Backing Skills and Road Skills. We provide job placement assistance.

  • Background check requirements for licensing and background restrictions for working in the occupation:

    Arizona Motor Vehicle Division requires a Birth Certificate or Passport, Photo ID and Social Security Card to obtain a 
    Class B Commercial Driver’s License Permit. Must be able to pass a DOT drug test.


Other requirements needed:

Be 18 years or older. Must have an active Arizona Drivers License. Must meet Department of Transportation physical requirements. Must be able read and speak English language sufficiently to converse with the general public; including understanding highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, the ability to respond to official inquires, and make entries on reports and records. Must be 21 to obtain Hazardous Materials Endorsement.



  • Phoenix Truck Driving School will supply all class materials, keep all state mandated records, and supply, maintain, and insure all trucks/trailers (including fuel, etc.) necessary to graduate a CDL, test-ready, student. Additionally, PTDS will employ and insure all licensed instructor to deliver those components.

  • PTDS will assist applicants in obtaining their instructional permit, USDOT (Dept. of Transportation) physical, and drug screen as well as background check. PTDS will counsel each prospective student on the advisability of enrolling in the class, with a reasonable expectation of passing the CDL exam, and industry employment, upon graduation.
