Description:
The Sterile Processing program is designed to provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills required to practice in the operating room environment. Sterile Processing Technicians work to ensure that the operating room environment is safe, equipment is functioning properly and during the operative procedure all team members are maximizing patient safety. Students study topics that include hospital organization, safety and legal issues, anatomy and physiology, aseptic technique, surgical procedures.
Competencies to be achieved:
SPD 101 Introduction to Sterile Processing
SPD 102 Surgical Instrumentation
SPD 103 Decontamination & Sterilization Procedures and Practices
SPD 104 Equipment Safety Management and Tracking
For each individual SPD course, there are several required lab competencies. In order to pass the class, all lab competencies must be completed with a passing grade.

Students will need a reliable computer, whether online or on campus. All the homework assignments, quizzes, and exams are completed online and will require out of class work. Students are not given class time for homework.
