Electrical for Manufacturing Certificate (Fast-Track)


A. Program Objective: To provide students with the basic understanding of electricity, control circuits and programmable logic controllers (PLC) architecture and programming.


Description: This certificate provides an introduction to basic electrical principles, circuits and measurements. It also gives an overview of the principles and applications of components, control circuits, diagrams, PLC architecture/programming and troubleshooting.


Competencies to be achieved (10 credits):


ECT 105 BASIC ELECTRICITY (3 cr.): Introduction to basic electrical principles, circuits, and measurements.


ECT 210 CONTROL CIRCUITS (4 cr.): Overview of the principles and applications of components, control circuits, and diagrams.


ECT 230 PROGRAMMABLE LOGIC CONTROLLERS (3 cr.):  Introduction to programmable logic controllers (PLC) architecture and programming. Topics include: memory, instruction sets, addressing modes, serial/parallel interfacing, relay/ladder logic, and troubleshooting.
