Medical Coding and Billing – Certificate


 


A. Program Objective: Graduates will demonstrate (1) basic knowledge of professional skills required for Medical Coding and Billing (2) knowledge and training on diagnostic and procedural coding and ICD-10 codes (3) knowledge of coding compliance and auditing (4) fundamental concepts for working effectively in a healthcare setting including knowledge of HIPPA and medical ethics.


 


Description: This program is designed to teach the fundamentals of medical coding and billing and prepare students to take the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) exam from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).  Course topics included medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, computer applications in healthcare technologies, insurance plans, and medical ethics.  Students will also learn diagnostic and procedural coding, coding compliance and auditing, physician and hospital billing, HIPPA compliance, Medicare, Medicaid, and TRICARE systems.  Students receive training and practice for ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPS code assignment.

BIO 160: Intro to Human Anatomy and Physiology (4 cr.) AHE 119 can be substituted for BIO 160.

**A single Cengage Unlimited MCB subscription will include all e-texts needed for the time they subscribe for.  Meaning that one single semester long subscription will cover all e-texts needed for AHE-119, MCB 100, MCB, 130, & MCB 160 during that semester.  If students plan to spread out those 4 courses over 2 semesters, then they should purchase a 12-month Cengage MCB subscription to cover both semesters worth of e-texts.  If student chooses the AHE 119 pathway they should purchase the Cengage subscription in AHE-119.  If they choose the BIO 160 route, they will purchase the subscription in MCB 100.
