Description
The objective of the program is to support local workforce development. Students learn the necessary skills as prescribed through the AZ Fire Marshall and the AZ Center for Fire Service Excellence to be a firefighter. The entry level certifications can be used for entry level employment where additional certifications can be obtained. These credentials are portable but will need to be reviewed by each state as some differences exist.
The Fire Academy is offered on a traditional school schedule starting in early August and ending in early May. The students meet Monday through Thursday approximately two hours per day and then select Fridays are designated as Skills Days. The Skills Days meet for eight hours and focus on the tasks necessary to become a firefighter including things like vehicle extrication, live fire and wildland techniques. At the end of the program, students have the opportunity to be certified in CPR/first aid, ISO/NIMS, wildland firefighting, Firefighter I/II and Hazmat FRA/FRO.
The testing fees paid allows students three testing opportunities within one year. During the 21-22 Academy, we had 18 participants. All 18 of those participants were eligible for employment in wildland and 9 (50%) of them had had received their FFI/FFII/Hazmat certifications within the three allowable testing opportunities. The 22-23 school year had 7 participants. All participants were eligible for employment in wildland and 1 of the 7 passed their FFI/FFII/Hazmat on the first try. Five of the 7 passed at least one portion of their certification testing and are eligible to retest during the years time period.

Refund Policy
Most students do not pay for the program costs on their own.
Students have one week from the first day of class to receive a full tuition reimbursement should the class/program be dropped. Starting the day after the one week drop period, tuition payments are non-refundable.
