Description

A. Course Objective:
Graduates with a criminology and criminal justice degree can choose careers in law enforcement, corrections, the courts and criminal justice case management. The law enforcement public sector encompasses multiple careers including criminologists, police officers and detectives, probation and parole officers, court administration and criminal psychologists. With this degree, you can also choose from a variety of relevant occupations in the public or private sector.
Description:
Criminology is the interdisciplinary study of delinquent or deviant behavior. This social science analyzes the where, how and why of criminal behavior and the impact it has on society. The focus of this study is to determine what led an individual to commit a crime. Criminal justice relates to the individuals who investigate these crimes and bring criminals to trial. It also relates to those who monitor inmates within correctional facilities and those who supervise individuals released to pretrial services, probation, parole and community supervision.
Competencies to be achieved:
As a student in this program, you can expect to gain competencies in three core areas of criminology and criminal justice:
● The causes of crime.
● The consequences of crime.
● The role of criminal justice agencies in managing crime.
You’ll learn to conduct appropriate research, develop theories, investigate crime scenes and compose reports. You’ll also have the opportunity to study behavioral science, psychology and logic.

● Background check requirements for licensing and background restrictions for working in the occupation: Applicants who apply for a law enforcement position with CBP are required to undergo a Tier V background investigation. Some issues that may result in an unfavorable suitability determination include: financial irresponsibility; poor credit history; drug/alcohol abuse; arrest history; misconduct in prior employment; association with individuals involved in illegal activities such as drug use and drug trafficking; and demonstrated lack of honesty/integrity in providing complete and comprehensive information about current/past behavior which may be unfavorable.
● Other requirements needed: Applicants who apply for a law enforcement position with CBP must pass the Border Patrol Agent Entrance Examination administered by US Customs and Border Protection.

Refund Policy

For semester classes, the 100 percent refund period extends through the first two weeks of the semester.  Withdrawal occurs on the calendar day requested. After the 100 percent refund period passes, tuition and fee payments become nonrefundable. This date is the same as the drop deadline for a class. The tuition refund policy does not apply to medical and compassionate withdrawals.
