Instructional Program (CIP)
Description
Program Objective: This course provides the skills that will be needed for an entry-level job in cybersecurity. Learners will use Python to program cybersecurity tasks, detect and respond to incidents using Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) performance package capture and analysis, and extrapolating data with SQL.
Description: In today’s digital landscape, cybersecurity is essential to protecting sensitive data and preventing cyber threats. This course equips learners with the foundational skills needed for an entry-level cybersecurity role. Through hands-on exercises and real-world scenarios, students will gain practical experience in security fundamentals, network defense, and incident response.
Participants will learn to configure firewalls, manage ports, and implement security protocols to safeguard systems from cyber threats such as fraud and phishing. The course introduces programming languages including Python, SQL, and Linux, enabling students to automate cybersecurity tasks and analyze security data. Additionally, learners will utilize Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) to monitor network activity and Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tools to protect networks, devices, and users from unauthorized access.
By the end of the course, students will have a strong foundation in cybersecurity principles, programming for security automation, and the ability to detect and respond to threats, preparing them for entry-level positions in cybersecurity and IT security support.
Competencies to be achieved:
Upon completion of the class students will be able to learn a wide range of skills and gain industry specific experience in:
· Demonstrate baseline security skills for IT support professionals
· Configure firewall’s and learn how to open and close ports
· Learn how to protect yourself and others from cyber-related threats like fraud and phishing.
· Learn new programing Languages: Python, SQL and Linux. This will enable the learner to automate many processes.
· Learn how to use IDS (Intrusion Detection Software).
· Protect Networks, devices, people and data from unauthorized access using Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tools.
