Program Synopsis
A. Course Objective:
Description: Construction Foundations - Build tiny home modules to develop all aspects of building a home:
Framing, sheathing, electrical, plumbing, insulation, drywall, texture, paint, cabinetry, windows, doors,
roofing, siding, HVAC and more. Building multiple tiny home modules in six months reinforces the
learning for life skills. This course will prepare students for employment in various construction fields,
including framer, electrician, plumber, drywaller, painter, roofer, laborer, etc. The course requires 870
hours for completion. A certificate of completion will be awarded to students that complete the program.
Skill Sets Taught:
Safety: OSHA 10-hour certification provided during the first week of class. 10 hours
R-62 License: R-62 Arizona Registrar of Contractors Statutes and Rules Exam preparation. 11 hours
Framing: Foundation basics, exterior wall framing, ceiling/roof framing, interior wall framing, &
framing tiny home modules. 131 hours
Sheathing: Sheathing basics, sheathing subfloors, sheathing roofs, sheathing exterior walls & sheathing tiny home modules. 119 hours
Insulation: Basic insulation requirements, installation of foundation insulation, wall insulation and ceiling insulation. 13 hours
Roofing: Roofing basics, flat roofs, parapet roofs, install a modified flat/parapet roof on tiny home
modules, including rolled roofing, rubberized roof coating & roof jacks. 108 hours
Windows & Doors: Basic window and door installation, install hinged door, sliding glass door & various window sizes. 24 hours
Electrical: Electrical current basics, wiring, electrical box locations, electrical panels, breakers, & electrical trim work, including continuity & polarity testing. 110 hours Plumbing: Waste line basics, venting, water lines, installation of fixtures, head tests, & pressure tests. 84 hours
HVAC: Basic mini split system operation, gas line placement, communication wire placement & mini split installation. 30 hours
Sheetrock, Tape & Texture: Sheetrock installation basics, taping joints, feathering joints and applying a hawk and trowel texture on tiny home modules. 116 hours
Siding: Siding basics, water/vapor barriers, installation of two different types of siding on tiny home modules. 48 hours
Flooring: Basic vinyl plank flooring installation. 14 hours
Tiling: Basics of tiling, waterproofing, grouting, installing tile in a shower. 8 hours
Interior/Exterior Painting: Painting basics, differentiation between exterior and interior, application techniques, etc. 14 hours
Cabinetry: Cabinet installation basics, fillers, kick plates, installing kitchen cabinets. 16 hours
Trim: Trim work basics, baseboard installation, door trim installation, exterior trim installation, etc. 14 hours
Competencies to be achieved: Prepared to take the AZROC SRE for a R-62 contractor’s license.

Refund Policy

An applicant who provides written notice of cancellation within three days (excluding Saturday, Sunday and federal and state holidays) of signing an enrollment agreement is entitled to a refund of all monies paid. An applicant requesting cancellation more than three days after signing an enrollment agreement and making an initial payment will be refunded all monies paid less $200 registration fee.
