Program Objective: Train competent, entry-level Phlebotomists in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills) and affective (professional behavior) domains.
Description: This Program provides entry level positions in facilities such as hospitals, physician offices, private medical laboratories, and blood donation centers. Phlebotomists draw blood to assist health care providers in diagnosing disease, monitoring disease, and assisting in research.
Competencies to be achieved:
1. Apply critical thinking Skills.
2. Assemble the appropriate phlebotomy collection equipment for venipuncture and capillary puncture as determined by the test ordered.
3. Demonstrate venipuncture and capillary puncture while following safety measures at all times.
4. Determine the proper sequence for requisitioning, transporting and processing specimens according to laboratory protocols.
5. Demonstrate the professional behavior attributes of a phlebotomy technician.
