Description
Program Objective: Prepare students for a career as a Certified EKG Technician or related field. Students will be prepared to take the National Healthcareer Association Certified EKG Technician exam.
Description: This course will prepare students to work as Certified EKG Technicians by providing an immersive learning experience into cardiovascular cell theory and anatomy, clinical skills for lead and treadmill patient assessment, experience reading applicable research, exploration of career opportunities, and professional development.
Competencies to be achieved:
Upon satisfactory completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of basic cell-theory and cardiovascular anatomy.
- Demonstrate understanding of conduction pathways.
- Demonstrate knowledge and practical applications of EKGs; to include troubleshooting EKGs and leads
- Demonstrate an understanding of Wiggers Diagram.
- Demonstrate knowledge of rhythms, to include but not limited to: atrial, junctional, ventricular, arrhythmias.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and practical skills with ER EKGs, treadmills, chemical stress tests, pacemakers, watches, and/or monitors.
- List and describe continuing education/professional development opportunities.
- Utilize case studies to demonstrate ability to interpret EKGs, illustrate EKG changes, and Holter interpretation.

Exam candidates must have the following before being eligible for the exam
- Possess a high school diploma or GED/High School Equivalency
- Completed an EKG Technician Training or education program within the last 5 years
- Provide evidence of successful completion of a minimum of ten (10) EKGs on live individuals

Refund/Cancellation Policy: A 100% refund will be granted if a request is made 2 working days prior to the start of class. A 50% refund will be issued if notice is received less than 2 business days prior to class. No refunds will be issued after the first day of class. If a class is canceled due to low registration we will contact you 2 working days prior.
